Dr. Meri Bura: Learn how to prevent and fight thyroid disease!

Health is much more than a pill. Health is immersed in lifestyle. Learn about all aspects of lifestyle that you never dreamed were connected to health, emphasizes Dr. Bura, announcing a unique education on holistic prevention and treatment of thyroid disease, obesity, and fatigue.

Thyroid diseases have become a major public health problem worldwide, and disease prevention, thyroid health preservation, timely diagnosis, and treatment are the best ways to significantly reduce the global burden of these diseases. A healthy lifestyle can prevent illness, and holistic medicine connects standard medical procedures with traditional natural treatment methods, providing solutions for health preservation through a healthy lifestyle.

Therefore, on October 16 and 17 in Šibenik, Dr. Meri Bura is organizing “Education with Dr. Meri Bura and specialist doctors on holistic prevention and treatment of thyroid disease, obesity, fatigue” which is intended for both doctors and patients and the entire interested public, and whose media sponsor is Mixer.hr.

In this unique education aimed at addressing all important questions related to thyroid diagnosis and therapy through topics about mental health, physical health, nutrition, regeneration, anti-stress, promoting holistic prevention and therapy in thyroid treatment, as well as natural treatment methods and nutrition, we talk with Dr. Meri Bura, medical doctor, founder of the holistic center Mulier, and creator of the Mulier method and this unique education.

My greatest achievements are patients who have healed their lives

If your name is any indication, your specialization doesn’t leave room for a day of rest. Is there space for “maestral” (a strong southerly wind) and “burin” (a bora wind) in the context of your activities?

The “maestral” of ideas and knowledge is always present, and Bura is here to clarify, focus, and deliver it. Because in the sea of information that intoxicates both body and mind, we all need true, truthful, and useful information that serves us the most. In this case – for women’s health.

Take two steps back, please. What was the initial spark or event/s that determined your interest in the respective branch of medicine?

It was coincidence, a twist of fate. I wanted to be a teacher, which is what I ultimately became.

In your career so far – what could you single out as highlights and your personal favorite successes and achievements related to your profession?

My greatest achievements are the patients who have been healed, who have changed their lifestyle, life circumstances, and started a healthy, happy life with my support. That brings me immense joy.

The work of the hormonal system is affected by emotions. Women are primarily emotional beings and it’s time to accept that as a fact

The field of combining a holistic approach to patients that puts both the cause and the classical medical postulates of the last century into the equation and unknowns, which relied more on remediation of the consequences. How often do holistic principles penetrate into the areas of the subconscious and placebo effect on patients, and how much is it about raising awareness of an optimistic approach, positive thoughts and energy of patients as a legitimate way of supporting the classic, less spiritual forms of old school medicine?

Holistic prevention and therapy have nothing to do with placebos; holistic does not mean anything different from scientific medicine, but rather signifies the unified therapy of scientific and natural medicine and represents the treatment of the entire body, not just one organ.

It means treating the entire lifestyle (nutrition, physical activity, sleep, work and other activities, communication with loved ones, emotional stability…).

All of this leads to the fact that the patient is not an object but a subject actively participating and expected to participate. It’s a joint activity of the patient and the doctor. The doctor is there to provide what and how, and the patient must implement it into daily life. The doctor must support this change. It doesn’t work any other way, and there are no long-term results otherwise.

Emotions are crucial

You are the author of the Mulier method of spine treatment. If you can briefly outline what your principle entails and how it differs from medical standards, and in what aspects it complements and improves them?

I focus on women’s health. For women’s health, the health of the entire hormonal system is essential, a balance in the function of cortisol, progesterone, estrogen, testosterone, and thyroid hormones. If these hormones are not in balance, they negatively affect various functions in the body. This is why hormones are the first aspect we address. Emotions influence the function of the hormonal system. Women are primarily emotional beings, and it’s time to accept that as a fact. However, knowledge about this is treated as some scientific fantasy that no one accepts.

Emotions aren’t important, and yet reality shows they are the most important. You can see this in the massive prevalence of self-help literature, videos, lectures on this topic – patients want to hear about it, but in practice, doctors don’t have time for it. And what happens then? Patients try all sorts of things. If approached professionally and if emotions and hormones are linked in diagnostics and therapy, then we achieve results.

You are also the manager of the Mulier Holistic Center. How does the center function on a regular basis and does it contribute to the betterment of your patients, and are you satisfied with the results – in terms of maintaining contact and monitoring patients after treatment at the center?

I’m often a pioneer with my services; thus, I’ve been an online doctor since 2014. We handle everything through email and phone calls. There’s rarely an indication for me to see patients in person, and then they come to my office. I deal with lifestyle treatment, and based on health questionnaires and laboratory results, I provide recommendations for nutrition, lifestyle, and stress reduction. Additionally, if necessary, I prescribe supplements and remedies.

With the rise of social media, the offer of various alternative medicine practitioners, as well as charlatans/amateurs selling vague promises under the guise of helping others, has increased and expanded. It’s important to differentiate professionals like you from the potential confusion in the “market.” How do you approach patients who are skeptical and how do you distinguish your approach? Is it through results or something else?

No one comes to me with skepticism. I’ve been doing this since 2004, and my website www.mulier.hr contains numerous articles I’ve written that patients read to get to know me. When they contact me, they are ready for change. I enjoy working with them, and I’m always available to them.

Unique education with doctors and patients

Soon, in mid-October, a health conference for the meeting of patients and doctors will take place in Šibenik, organized by your organization. An education on the holistic approach to thyroid disease prevention and treatment? How is the concept and organization envisioned?

The concept is holistic, and through panels, we will talk with doctors about their experiences and recommendations for thyroid treatment. We have five panels to cover everything that affects women’s health. A panel on mental and emotional health, physical health, nutrition and digestion, detoxification and anti-aging, and stress reduction.

Do you have an idea and a vision to make it traditional or is it an event as needed and to react to the state of health of the nation?

We’ll see. This is my contribution to all women in Croatia. It’s up to them to apply if they’re interested and find it important. It’s also up to doctors to apply so that together we can consider treatment approaches. It’s up to everyone to spread this news so that women who are currently researching who and where to turn to can get information from experts. If so, we will achieve the goal of this education, which is to bridge the gap between patients and doctors, to connect them, and to provide women with what they seek.

Among the points and goals of the education, the emphasis is on promoting holistic prevention and holistic therapies in thyroid treatment, promoting natural healing methods and nutrition, dietary supplements. We kindly request you, only for an introduction, if you could specify the directions in which the communication and proposal of a holistic approach to patients are carried out?

The direction is clear – if you have a chronic illness and you’re willing to change your lifestyle to heal, seek holistic doctors because they have knowledge and qualifications; some of the natural treatment methods have fundamental medical knowledge.

Could you announce some participants and areas of medicine that will be discussed?

In the physical health panel, we have endocrinologist Dr. Jozo Jelčić, who authored a book about obesity that refers to lifestyle treatment and has extensive experience in thyroid treatment. Otorhinolaryngologist Dr. Miljenko Bura, who has performed thousands of thyroid cancer surgeries. Dr. Ljiljana Vidošević, a nuclear medicine specialist who heads the thyroid outpatient clinic. Dr. Tomislav Čižmešija, a family medicine physician, homeopath, and educator. Dr. Jeanette Gjurić, an anesthesiologist and Chinese medicine doctor.

We will also have Dr. Mirjana Kalauz, an experienced gastroenterologist, Dr. Lejka Kažinić Kreho, a physician and nutritionist, Dr. Mladen Duduković, an experienced aesthetic surgeon, Dr. Haris Boko, an electrical engineer, dean at Cotrugli MBA. Dr. Sanja Malbaša Gošović, a family medicine physician who is an acupuncturist and cosmetologist. And myself, a general practitioner and holistic doctor of FX Mayr. Just imagine the amount of knowledge and experience in this group.

I invite women to apply and send us questions they want answers to. Their questions are the most important to us. That’s why this education exists.

We need to make a distinction between Dr. Google and the profession

Is participation in the conference open for patients, or are there some kind of tickets or fees?

Tickets can be obtained at a lower price of 450 kuna until October 1 for online participation. After October 1, tickets for online participation are 750 kuna. In-person participation is 1500 kuna. Along with participation in panels, there are various benefits, gifts, and similar.

We need to raise awareness of the value of medical knowledge and differentiate between Dr. Google and expertise.

Health is much more than a pill. Health is embedded in lifestyle. Learn about all aspects of lifestyle that you never dreamed were connected to health.

According to your knowledge, how has the global pandemic of the coronavirus subsidiarily affected the overall psychophysical health of chronic or seasonal patients?

I don’t know, I don’t have data on that, nor do I have experience. My patients have all the necessary knowledge and guidance to overcome stress, and when they have additional questions, I’m here for them.

How satisfied are you with the overall health status of the nation and the people you communicate with? In what direction do you see 21st-century society moving from the perspective of your specialization domain?

It’s very different. There have always been and will always be sick and healthy, good and bad people, rich and poor. It’s up to me to spread news and knowledge, and it’s up to patients to choose.

Thank you, Mixer , for this interview and for the support in general.
